MOVIE SYNOPSIS - Where can I watch it and what's the story of this 1997 film?

Algiers, 1940. MAMAN TITINE has resided alone along with her five kiddies since her spouse JOSEPH, a Jewish postoffice worker, set off for Paris with forged papers to get work. Maman Titine tries to hide the fact she actually is worried # especially so she can ease the youth issues of her son MEYER, a sensible, proud and nonconformist young child whom really loves the lady in a jealous way. When monetary trouble and loneliness threaten to finally obtain the better of the woman she travels to occupied Paris in an attempt to persuade Joseph to return. He's to remain, nonetheless: he cannot make money in war-torn Algiers. At the same time Meyer is growing up; he has his first intimate experiences, and attempts because best he can to keep the family fed. When Joseph comes back in 1945 Meyer, whom fought on De Gaulle's side during the chronilogical age of almost 18, visits France. He studies medication there and becomes a famous surgeon.
