MOVIE SYNOPSIS - Where can I watch it and what's the story of this 1994 film?

In 1722, a Dutch discovered an island in the South Pacific, which even its residents called Rapa Nui, but otherwise he named it Easter Island. Many years earlier had taken place on the island a serious social conflict: Short Ears were lower class and statues built by order of the Long Ears, who were the nobles. As such only the Long Ears were eligible to participate in the annual competition that determined who would be the new Birdman. But one of the young competitors of the event was in love with a girl from the Short Ears. That love could only succeed in the event that he would overcome the trials and she agreed to go inside a cave the moons were missing until the day of the competition.
