'Heute muss sich was ändern.' Am Vortag ihres 25. Geburtstages hat die arbeitslose Schauspielerin Emma endgültig die Schnauze voll von ihrem armseligen Leben in einer tristen Frankfurter Hochhaussiedlung. Statt als Schauspielerin eine große Karriere zu machen, jobbt sie in einer Videothek und sortiert Filmkassetten. Ihr Sandkastenfreund Max vergrault mit seinem losen Mundwerk die letzten Kunden, schwärmt für Harold und Maude und verehrt den Pornodarsteller John C. Holmes. Ihre beste Freundin Malia muss kurz vor der Hochzeit mit Christo feststellen, dass ihre Beziehung nicht mehr funktioniert, und die beiden pubertierenden Jungs Banu und Leo haben nur eines im Kopf: Mädchen. Kurz, Emmas Alltag hat wenig mit ihren Träumen zu tun. Als dann auch noch die Videothek geschlossen werden soll, sieht sie einem schwarzen Geburtstag entgegen. Aber die Dinge kommen in Bewegung - nur ganz anders, als erwartet.
