MOVIE SYNOPSIS - Where can I watch it and what's the story of this 1987 film?

A young German woman named Elaine Hines traveled to New York dreaming of becoming a writer. Elaine becomes entangled in a mystery and just having trouble with a group of gangsters who will make life a series of crazy adventures. A remake called Lulú Forever (2000) was made based on this movie.
