MOVIE SYNOPSIS - Where can I watch it and what's the story of this 1999 film?

The film is based on the popular children's book by Chris van Dutch writer Abkoude. In a Dutch port, in 1921, an orphan boy of 10 years known to all simply as Little Crumb lives. His mom Lize van Dien, poverty-stricken and full of grief, was forced to surrender to Mrs. Koster later just born to raise him. Mrs. Koster, adoptive mother nursing him since he was a baby, is also very poor and can not maintain itself. Displaying be cruel, strict and harsh, Crumb forces to bring fortune, otherwise will not let him in the house. Somehow, Crumb has to make a living on the streets, stealing and makes stands and stores in becoming a name urchin. Sometimes sleeping in a church or in corners, others have to flee the police and generally has earned the enmity of the adults around him. A stray dog becomes his constant companion. One day Mrs. Koster dies but earlier in his deathbed, gives the small Crumb pendant locket containing photos of his father .. From this moment, Crumb always carries with him the medallion. Wilkes the greengrocer, who knows very well to this urchin, decides to take him to live with him. To the surprise of Crumb, with Wilkes life is good. Wilkes is writing a book about the adventures who lived a childhood friend. When you show him the picture of his friend, the little Crumb is stunned, this man is the one he has on his medallion: his father. Wilkes will account called Harry Volkes and ten years ago he went to America to seek his fortune. Little Crumb happiness lasts for Wilkes store catches fire and, once again, run out guardian and is sent to an orphanage run by a miserable man. Life Little Crumb is far from a bed of roses but at least now have the hope that one day his father comes looking. Meanwhile, Wilkes part to America to find Harry Volkes. During these years his mother changed his name to Vera di Borboni and has become a famous pianist. Who knows if the future holds a better life to the small Crumb and maybe someday I can be reunited with their parents ..
